For the first time at the EDGE we have a performance from a professional dance company - TONGUES.
TONGUES is a dance and spoken-word performance created and performed with groups of young people in two locations in Wales, Cardiff and Brecon. The tongue is where the brain and the body can be most tangibly felt to intersect. It is the muscle with which we express our thoughts, language, identity, and sense of self. It is central to communication and understanding. This is a short extract from the show danced by three of our professional performers: choreographer Zosia Jo, Emma Houston and Ben McEwen.
Joon Dance is a professional dance company based at the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven. The company creates touring performances, specialising in performance for young people. High-quality dance in the community is at the heart of our mission: every work by Joon Dance includes an element of involvement with audiences and participants.
Zosia Jo graduated from Northern School of Contemporary Dance. She is based in Wales but has worked throughout the UK and extensively in Egypt. Zosia’s work as a choreographer is prolific and characterised by use of text and sociopolitical themes. She has a passion for increasing access to dance for all and facilitates with energy and inclusivity.
Emma Houston is a versatile artist with a keen interest in all forms of movement and choreography. A graduate of Trinity Laban, Emma uses her contemporary dance training and experience as a B-girl to create her own individual style of movement, incorporating flow and strength to move fluidly and dynamically.
